2,021 Corps Members Sworn In For NYSC Batch C Stream 2 Orientation Course In Anambra
The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday swore in 2,021 corps members for Batch C Stream Two Orientation programme at the Mbaukwu-Umuawulu permanent orientation camp in Anambra on Tuesday.
Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, Coordinator of NYSC in Anambra said the new inductees were all screened for COVID-19 and confirmed fit for this exercise.
Baderinwa who was represented by Mrs Anwuli Molukwu, the Commandant congratulated corps members for their successful graduation from their different institutions which qualified them for national duty and urged them to embrace all the training and activities on camp seriously.
According to her, life on Camp is regimented and can never be compared to what is obtainable in your homes.
“I wish at this juncture to express management appreciation to the Governor of Anambra for the numerous support the scheme has been enjoying as well as our host communities, Umuawulu and Mbaukwu for their hospitality to us,” she said.
Declaring the camp open, Brig Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director General of NYSC said the Orientation Course would prepare them physically and mentally for their expected contributions to the progress and development of Nigeria.
Ibrahim who was represented by Baderinwa said the programme would equip them for the realisation of their potential and attainment of individual feats both within the period of service and beyond, adding that history would be kind to them for your patriotic zeal.
“Highlights of the camp activities will include lessons on the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical training as well as sensitization on topical national issues, amongst others,” he said.
The DG said said they were deliberately posted away from their states of origin and assembled here from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds in line with some of the objectives of the NYSC,
He said the deployment policies were aimed at broadening corps members’ understanding of the country, to stand them in good stead for effective contribution to the promotion of national unity and integration.
According to him, I therefore, encourage you to ensure healthy interactions, exchange ideas and build lasting friendships with a view to advancing the progress of a united Nigeria.
“I also urge you to use social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred.
“At all times, you must be security conscious, and avoid putting yourselves in harm’s way,” he said
Ibrahim charged corps members to embrace the skills acquisition and empowerment component of the programme as self-employment and wealth creation was” a major area of focus for the Scheme since 2012.
“You will from this moment be availed of that opportunity through our Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
“I am happy to inform you that many of your predecessors, who embraced vocational and entrepreneurial training are now successful business owners,” he said.
