RULAAC Seeks Soludo’s Intervention In Isuaniocha Community Crisis
The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to bring the protracted crisis in Isuanocha Community in Awka North Local Government Area of the State under control and ensure peace.
RULAAC in a petition signed by Okechukwu Nwanguma, the Executive Director said it was drawing the attention of Soludo to the criminal activities and killings of a gang operating from a base known as ‘White House’ in the community under the sponsorship of a former President General.
The petition is entitled “Let The Bereaved Bury THEIR Dead In Peace: A Cry to Prof. Charles Soludo, to Guarantee Peace, Safety And Order In Isuaniocha Community”.
He said the gang members were causing mayhem, attacking and terrorising members of one Okoye family in Iffite Isu village with a view to disrupting their preparations for the burial of their late mother and daughter on Thursday.
“RULAAC had forwarded this information to Anambra authorities seeking prompt action and the deployment of appropriate security agencies in the state to intervene to ensure order and allow a bereaved family to bury their dead in peace.
“RULAAC, for the umpteenth time, also called for a thorough and impartial investigation to bring the lingering crisis in Isuaniocha to an end,” it said.
RULAAC said the Isuaniocha community crisis had been ongoing since 2018 climaxing in the alleged kidnap and murder of a youth leader(name withheld).
It said the alleged kidnap and murder with cry for justice by the people was responsible for the escalation of tension including destruction of property in the agrarian town.
RULAAC a human rights organisation promoting the rule of law said innocent person had been declared wanted and others illegally detained while the suspect were yet to be prosecuted.
“On behalf of the people of Isuaniocha, we call for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the invitation and continued detention of the youth leader.
“They call for truth, fairness, equity, and justice convinced that only truthful and just intervention will save their community from the anarchy inflicted on it by one man.
“We call on His Excellency to urgently and decisively intervene and restore peace and order in Isuaniocha,” it said.
