Anambra Transport Operators Laud House of Assembly, Soludo On War Against Touts
The Issue of Multiple taxation and levies have been a major concern to
some residents of Anambra State especially commercial transport operators.
Tricycle Operators to Shuttle bus drivers, shop owners and business owners have been calling on government to come to their aid by putting an end to the activities of illegal revenue collectors parading as agents state.
In a reaction ,Soludo led administration as a listening government took steps towards saving the people by introducing a number of measures aimed at ensuring that revenues were paid directly to government coffers .
The Governor also established an Anti Touting Squad code named SASA to identify and apprehend culprits of multiple taxation in the state.
Recently, Anambra Tricycle Riders Association (ANTRA) , an umbrella body for keke operators petitioned the State House of Assembly, complaining about the difficulties and dangers they faced in the hands of illegal agents.
They requested that ANTRA be allowed to be independent and pay levies approved by government
The House through its Committee on Public Petitions looked at the prayers of the petitioners and took a resolution that was described as responsive by ANTRA.
The resolution which followed the recommendations of the Committee explained that the government was against all forms of touting in the state warning whoever collected money from the Petitioners in the name of the state government should be resisted.
According to the recommendations, there are so many scavengers all over in Onitsha and across the state that SASA should
with immediate effect look into the complaints of the petitioners and get
rid of all them including one ‘Governor Obosi” in Onitsha.
The House directed the Commissioner for
Transport to give a written authority to Anambra State Tricycle
Riders Association to manage their own affairs,
collect approved fees and remit same to the government.
Mr Chidozie Okafor, the Chairman of ANTRA thanked the lawmakers for the resolution and standing firm to address the plights and their business.
Okafor pledged their total support to the Soludo administration
while encouraging members to always be prompt in payment of the
approved fees to government coffers which he said was being utilized in road construction and other numerous projects that impacts on the people.
