PDP Elders Council Urges NWC To Ignore Call For Dissolution Of Anambra State Exco
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra Elders Council has thrown its weight behind the State Executive Committee led by Mr Chidi Chidebe.
The PDP Elders who rose from a crucial meeting in Anambra in Awka on Friday said the party in the state is peaceful , intact and in safe hands.
The Communique which was signed by Chief Chief Felix Oli and Dr Odili Ojukwu, chairman and Secretary respectively of the council said the current Anambra PDP executive was performing well and all stakeholders were being
actively engaged.
The Elders Council said the falsehood which was being propagated against the duly constituted state executive committee was both regrettable and concerning.
They said nothing warranted the call for the dissolution of the PDP leadership in Anambra and called on the National Working Committee and PDP Governor’s forum to ignore the propaganda.
The Council said recognising such a move would destabilise the legitimate structure of PDP in Anambra, weaken internal cohesion as well as cast doubts over the credibility of the forthcoming governorship elections in the state and the National Convention.
The Elders Council said there was no legal action pending against the Anambra executive Committee and that any rumour suggesting otherwise was entirely false.
“The NWC should exercise caution and discernment towards purveyors of such misleading information.
“The Anambra State PDP Elders Council firmly states that any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would be a direct invitation to instability and unrest in the state.
“The NWC must resist any influence that seeks to create unnecessary conflict. We have made progress, and there is no justification for regression.
“No injustice has been meted out to any member, and the Executive maintains a strong working relationship with the NWC
“One of the most significant achievements of the current NWC remains the free and fair congress conducted in Anambra, having accomplished this milestone, the NWC must not allow itself to be manipulated into undermining its own success,” it said.
The PDP Elders Council appreciated the efforts of the NEC, National Working Committee, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and the National Caucus to stabilising the party.
They recommended that the NWC should convene a meeting of major stakeholders of the PDP in Anambra to be held within the state in order to accurately gauge the prevailing sentiment and mood of the party.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to the NWC led by Amb. Iliya Damagun, for their steadfast support during our chall
enging period,” it said.
