WTD: CKC Onitsha 2005 Set Celebrate Teachers, Donate Sports Equipment To Alma Mater
Alumni of Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, 2005 set have showered their former teachers with awards and cash gifts in appreciation for their contributions to their lives during the occasion of 2025 World Teachers’ Day.
The Old Boys also donated a standard Table Tennis Board and a Sit-Up Abdominal Trainer worth about N1 million to their alma mater to promote students’ physical fitness.
The former students said it was their unique way to thank God and appreciate men and women who helped to shape their lives.
Speaking at the event, Dr Chinonso Ofozoba, a member of the 2005 set and an academic at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University said Teachers’ Day was a time to remember how educators planted seeds that grew into lasting success stories.
Ofozoba said they were able to attain their current positions in life because of the foundations which were laid by their teachers.
“Among us are academics, entrepreneurs, public servants, and industry leaders, these are fruits of the dedication CKC instilled in us,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Chukwuemeka Abaikwam,the coordinator of the alumni who presented the cash gifts to the five selected teachers recalled how the CKC, Onitsha anthem guided the lives of students.
Abaikwam said the group also had other projects including ‘One Year, One Millionaire’ initiative, where alumni raised one million naira yearly to empower a member in need.
“Over the years, four beneficiaries have become self-sufficient and now contribute to helping others.
“I want to commend Sir Fidelis Ikeji, the convener of this alumni group, for uniting members since 2019.
“We also carry out yearly humanitarian visits to orphanages, hospitals, and elderly homes, these are some of the values of compassion and service we learnt from our teachers about,” he said.
Receiving the sports equipment, Revd. Fr Celestine Okafor, Principal of CKC Onitsha, commended the alumni for celebrating Teachers’ Day in such a meaningful way.
Okafor said the gesture to honour teachers by students was the highest form of learning, your teachers will always be proud of you.” he said.
Mrs Ngozi Osefo, Principal of Awa Secondary School, Orumba South Local Government Area who spoke on behalf of the honorees appreciated the CKC 2005 set for their gestures.
Osefo said teachers’ greatest reward was to seeing their students excel adding that their visit on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day filled them with sense of pride.
