NOC, SWAN Commiserate Agu-Ejidike Over Mother’s Death
Some stakeholders in the sports sector have expressed condolences to Donatus Agu-Ejidike, the Pillar of Sports in Nigeria over the death of his mother, Mrs Rita-Chinego Ejidike.
Habu Gumel, President of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) commissioned, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) at the national and state levels, sports administrators and business associates were among those who graced the event.
Ejidike, mother of Pillar of Sports Nigeria who died at the age of 94 was buried in her home, Umuezeagu, Uruagu, Nnewi in Anambra.
The funeral Mass was led by Most Revd Dr Jonas-Benson Okoye of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi.
Speaking on the occasion, Habu Gumel, President of NOC commiserated said the Olympic movement in Nigeria identified with Ejidike at this time of grief.
The President who was represented by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of NOC appreciated God for the lives and times of madam Ejidike and her gift of Pillar of Sports to Nigeria.
“The Olympic movement in Nigeria wishes to express our condolences to Agu-Ejidike on the death of his beloved mother who passed on at the ripe age of 94.
“We thank God for a life well spent, she gave Nigerian sports one of her finest treasures in the person of Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike who is Pillar of Sports Nigeria,” he said.
Also commiserating, Isaiah Benjamin, the President of SWAN expressed the heartfelt condolences of the body.
Benjamin, who was represented by Ndubueze Chidoka, his Chief of Staff described the death of the matriarch of Ejidikes as a particular loss to the family and a collective to the sports community.
According to him, we have come to celebrate the life and time of Mama Ejidike, the mother of our friend and Pillar of Sports in Nigeria who has contributed immensely to the sector.
“The death of a mother is painful, so we also here to condole with him and members of his family,” he said.
In his remark, Agu-Ejidike said it was difficult for him to come to terms with the demise of his mother and the fact that would henceforth refer to her in past tense.
He described his mother as a successful wife, mother, home manager, builder and a strong pillar of the Ejidike family whose role would not be easily replaced.
“You radiated so much love and support for your husband and children with humility, caring, devotion, attention and consideration for others.
“Your daily words of prayers, admonitions made me survive all vicissitudes,” he said.
