Mr Arinzechukwu Awogu, the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra says the existential challenges of residents of Okpoko were yet to be addressed.

Awogu who made the observation during his campaign to Okpoko Ward 3 at the weekend said the area was still a slum.

He said the challenges which included environment, road infrastructure, school facilities and healthcare needed deliberate and concerted attention .

Awogu, a former Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Council said there was need for urgent intervention from both the State and Federal Government to address the ecological, road, education and living conditions in Okpoko.

“Okpoko as a community has great potential but lacks the needed attention to fully develop its potentials and make progress in areas of human capacity and utilisation of its population.

“Okpoko is a hub of activities and remains a force particularly with its teeming population and commercial activities.

“The economy of Ogbaru Federal Constituency and Anambra at large will improve once the needs of Okpoko are fully addressed,” he said.

Awogu said the total number of kilometers of roads done in Okpoko so far was less than 15km as against 150km needed and that over 700 culverts needed to be constructed to enable connectivity and linkage of streets within the area

He recalled that in 2016, he personally went by foot with tape to measure all street-roads in Okpoko with a team of engineers from Anambra ministry of works.

He said he was familiar with Okpoko and that he was the best man to fix and transform the area if they employed him by voting him into the National Assembly.

Some residents who spoke attested to Awogu’s numerous interventions in Okpoko and how he accommodated Okpoko people in his council without discrimination.

They all resolved that Awogu was their preferred candidate for Federal House and promised to vote him en masse.
