Obiano, Uzu, Okoye Lead Obiano’s Cabinet Members For 2023 Contest
As the eight years tenure of Chief Willie Obiano as governor of Anambra State winds down on March 17, some members of his cabinet have indicated interest to go for different legislative positions.
The cabinet members who served in various capacities in the Obiano administration want to represent their constituents in the Senate, House of Representatives and Anambra House of Assembly.
Some of the cabinet members which all things being equal will justle for the ticket of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for legislative contest in Anambra come 2023 are:
Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano- Anambra North
Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano is the wife of Gov. Willie Obiano who provided the matrimonial and emotional support with which the governor steered Anambra Statecraft from the departure point through turbulent waters to safe anchor point.
Ebelechukwu popularly called ‘osodieme’ one who complements her husband’s good deeds, she means different things to different people and is both admired and feared by many for her kind heartedness and strong convictions.
The first lady is generally regarded as a woman with a kind heart who used her pet project the CAFÉ to touch the lowly and the needy in the society.
She is a maiden of Ekwegbalu family Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area and is married to Obiano in Anambra East Local Government Area, both in Anambra North Senatorial District.
She wants to represent the Area in the Red Chambers; she has since openly agreed to the call for her contest for the seat.
Uzuegbunam Okagbue: Anambra Central
Uzuegbunam Okagbue is a young and enterprising gentleman of intermediate age from Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
In formal organisations, Uzu could be regarded as a Policy man who is rarely seen and not heard at all.
As the Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to Obiano, Uzu packaged and shaped the administration and could be aptly described as the powerful force and chief cook in Obiano’s kitchen cabinet.
He is a gentleman with a heart of gold.
Though he has not openly declared, his track record has generated conversation that he should make himself available to represent Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers.
Mark Okoye- Anaocha/Dunukofia/Njikoka
Mr Mark Okoye, is the Commissioner for Economic Political Planting and Budget and Development Partners in the Obiano administration.
Okoye is the youngest member of the cabinet but had started gathering public experience in the previous administration where he served as Special Adviser on Investment.
Okoye is from Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area, the only Local Government Area that has not produced a House of Representatives member in Anaocha/Dunukofia/Njikoka in the present fourth republic which started in 1999.
Mark Okoye, an Economic and Financial expert is a blend of intelligence, youthfulness and technocracy in the mold of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and provides the best option for DNA in the Federal House of Representatives come 2023.
Okoye remains a golden bird that had no bush, the call for home to step in and change the representation narrative of DNA is gathering momentum, a call he has not rejected but is making relevant consultation about.
Arch Michael Okonkwo- Orumba North/South
Arch Michael Okonkwo is the Commissioner for Housing and was before his appointment, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA)
Okonkwo is an American trained Architect and also a man in touch with his people.
He has his eyes on Orumba North and Orumba South Federal Constituency Seat in the National Assembly.
Uchenna Okafor- Oyi/ Anyamelum
Mr Uchenna Okafor, popularly called ‘Wiper’ is the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce.
Okafor had served as Commissioner for Transport, Special Adviser on Internally Generated Revenue and was at one time Chairman of Oyi Local Government Area.
He is regarded as a man of immense means and a powerful grassroots mobiliser.
He wants to be the member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency.
Obi Nwankwo- Awka North/Awka South
Mr Obi Nwankwo is the Commissioner for Environment.
Before his recent position, he served as Commissioner for Public Utilities.
Nwankwo is from Obizi area of Awka South LGA.
Though he had not declared, but this medium understands that strong consultations are going on to pave the way for him to contest the Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency Seat.
Ifeanyi Aniago- Njikoka 2 ANHoA
Ifeanyi Aniago, is the Director of Digital Entrepreneurship Office, a strategic office that drives the youth empowerment on Information and Communications Technology programme of the Obiano administration.
He had earlier served as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Obiano on Youth Development and Digital Entrepreneurship.
Aniagor is a grassroots politician with a strong youth support base.
