Rojenny Stadium MD Hails Nigerian Contingent To Birmingham 2022
Rommy Ezeonwuka, Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Games Village Oba, near Onitsha had congratulated Team Nigeria to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England for their positive exploits at the game.
Nigerian won a total of 35 medals including 12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze to emerge the seventh best team at the competition and best in Africa.
Ezeonwuka, said the athletes did themselves and the nation proud at the games in spite of the challenges facing the sports sector in the country.
He said this year’s edition of the CWG was more significant as Team Nigeria did not only surpass their previous performances but finished ahead of other African countries st the games.
“I wish the medalist big congratulations, I know they did all of their individual efforts and received most training from outside the country,” he said.
Ezeonwuka said there were so many opportunities in sports, especially individual events and that many world conquering budding athletes across the country.
He said his vision of constructing Rojenny Stadium about four decades ago was to provide a platform for Nigerian youths to develop and rise to stardom.
According to him, what I built at Rojenny Games Village is languishing because of the government’s inability to put them to use.
“Rojenny is an Olympic Stadium which most states have not been able to replicate, but the problem is that our athletes are not being kept busy by administration.
“So while i join Nigerians to congratulate our successful athletes, I want to call on governments to start utilising these facilities to produce hundreds of medalists of international repute,” he said.
