Community Vigilance Group Urges Soludo To Resume Payment Of Operatives’ Stipend
A Vigilance Group operative has called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to pay its operatives their monthly stipend.
The source from Orsumenyi town, Nnewi South LGA said this while giving an account of the security situation in the community before the Anambra Truth, Justice and Peace Commission (ATJPC) in Awka.
He said members of the vigilance group stopped getting their monthly stipend in March 2022.
According to him, members of our vigilance have not received payment since March last year. I want to plead that the governor should resume the payment as a motivation for community security outfit.
On the security situation in the Orsumenyi, the source said gunmen had destroyed their operational vehicles and carted away their arms.
He said no fewer than six persons had been killed by the gunmen since Dec. 17, 2021 when the divisional Police office was burnt which left two Police personnel killed.
He said a number of attempts were made on his life during which he scaled his fence and fled the Community with members of his family.
He blamed the attacks on criminals operating in the border areas of Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State
He pointed out that the killing of the dreaded Odumodu from Ihitenansa had resulted in the peaceful environment they were enjoying at the moment.
The Community leader said no fewer than 33 local youths who were indigenes of the town had been arrested for acting as informants to the criminals.
The Anambra Truth, Justice and Peace Commission is established to unravel the remote and immediate causes of killings and general insecurity in Anambra wirh a view to profering lasting solution through non military approach.
It is chaired by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, a lawyer and International Civil Rights Crusader with Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as Secretary.
