Association of Clergy Sets Up Trust Fund, Urges Help For Flood Victims
A group under the eagis of Christian Association of Clergy, has called on government at all levels, groups and kind spirited Nigerians to come to the aid of displaced flood victims across the country.
A Statement signed by the ArchBishop Yiwa Orkwar and His Lordship, Justice Ikpeama, National President and Coordinator of the group described the confirmation of displaced people in camps as pathetic and pitiable.
It regretted the flood incidents which had claimed lives, destroyed homes, washed away farmlands and distorted the normal lives of millions of people across the country.
The association said that victims of flood disaster were in dire need of our prayers, help, encouragement and succour, noting that pure and defiled religion was one that helped widows, downtrodden, orphans and those in need.
According to them, it is unfortunate and regrettable that most of the IDP camps lack security, electricity, water, foams, pillows, toilets, bathrooms, soaps,tissues, food,cloths and other basic necessities of life.
“It is no longer news that they lost their houses, money, properties, farmlands, crops, source of livelihood and all they have acquired in life.
*We share in their agony, pains and sufferings and call on governments, politician, corporate organisations and individuals to spare no efforts to contribute immensely toward ameliorating the plights of the victims and their families,” it stated.
The Christian Clergy said they had set up a Special Trust Fund for rehabilitating displaced persons in various IDP camps in the country and directed that churches should raise money for their contributions.
The statement said the Special Trust Fund would be used to mobilise resources to put smiles on faces of the displaced persons, church leaders should raise funds in their churches to aid for upkeeps of victims
According to the body, we are calling for collective and collaborative efforts to bring succour, hope, joy and comfort to the displaced persons and their families.
In tandem with teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and wise postulation of Rev. Martin Luther king Jr. that “any spiritual emancipation without socioeconomic, political, cultural emancipation is puny spirituality.
“There is always unprecedented blessings, goodwill in giving and sharing,” it stated
The Clergy prayed for repose of the souls of those have died as a result of the flood while urging government to find lasting solution to the perennial flooding in the country
Recall Christian Association of Clergies is an association of all clergies agitating and championing the interest and social welfare of clergies, members of laity and citizenry.
