Awka A/S Win Maiden SWAN Week Football Cup As Ugokwe Shines In Draught

The Awka All Stars of Awka, a veterans’ Football Club have emerged champions of the football event Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter Sports Weeks.
Police FC were second while hosts SWAN FC finished third in the one day football 5-Aside cage medley game.
The fourth team Anambra State Football Association FC did not turn up for their games due to last minute development.

In the Draught event, Chucks Ugokwe, a former secretary of the association showed class by defeating all his opponents in the non rated game.
Chigozie Chukwuleta, a former Vice President of SWAN dominated other participants in the Ludo event while Chimezie Anaso led the pack in the Whot game.
Other members of SWAN who participated in the Games were zikem Asika who led the football team, Marvelous Ezenwa, Uche Ndeke, Ifeanyi Okonkwo, Cyril Nwoye, Okechukwu Onuegbu, Emma Ndukuba and Abuchi Onwumelu while Tony Okafor made a special appearance.

The game which was themed “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment” was proudly supported by the Police Command in Anambra, Directorate of State Services, AnSFA and Awka Stars FC.
In his goodwill message, Patrick-Agha Mba applauded SWAN for creating a convivial environment for sports lovers and security agencies while appreciating the participants.
Mba said Anambra government under Prof. Chukwuma Soludo was working towards moving sports from the realm of entertainment to a thriving industry for movement as well as a strong component of economic empowerment for youths.
He commended SWAN for their contributions to the development and promotion of sports while assuring that the ministry under his leadership would continue to give the association the attention and support it required to function optimally.

On his part, Ikechukwu Nwekwe, (JeluoAwka), the chairman of Awka All Stars said they would continue to identify with ideas and programmes that support the development of sports especially football.
Nwekwe used the opportunity to call on Soludo to support Soludo FC, the state owned Football Club to compete favourably and gain promotion from NNL to NPFL by funding it properly.
He lauded SWAN for the maiden Sports Week and urged the association to continue to hold programmes that engender friendship, positive competition and healthier lives.
Chikelue Iloenyosi, chairman of AnSFA said he was happy to partner SWAN in the programme.
Iloenyosi expressed confidence that Anambra sports would improve with collaboration among stakeholders.
Earlier, Anaso, chairman of SWAN, appreciated all the partners and participants including members
for making the event a success.
