Awogu Urges Police, EFCC To Probe Multiple Accounts Allegedly Linked To Sacked APC Chairman
Chief Arinzechukwu Awogu, Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra has called on the Nigerian Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate multiple accounts allegedly linked to Sen. Emma Anosike, sacked chairman of the party in the state.
Awogu made the call in his response to the petition of Anosike to the Inspector General of Police and EFCC chairman where he alleged that there were about 25 bank accounts traceable to the ousted chairman.
Anosike who is also the Chairman of Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority (AIRBDA) had petitioned against Awogu for defamation and cyber bullying following allegation of embezzling N 1.5 billion party fund, leadership rascality and call for his resignation.
Awogu who said the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), had waded into the matter said the discovery further underscored character and dealings of the former chairman during the short period he was in office.
He said rather than respond to the issues against him, the party’s former chairman resorted to threat and blackmail by petitioning the IGP.
He said had provided graphic details of Anosike’s party funds meddling and other shocking revelations to anti corruption agencies including the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Reports further alleged that the APC National Secretariat staff, who were deployed to Anambra to screen and conduct Primaries for the 30 State Constituencies
were yet to be paid their entitlements which were elaborately provided for.
One of the staff who protested at the National secretariat said the ousted chairman asked them to return on the promise that he would send them the money but had failed to do so.
“We came to Anambra State as secretariat staff for the State Assembly Primaries and after the primaries he asked us to go back that he will send our money but uptill this moment we have not seen any money.
“We have been calling the candidates to help us beg the senator to release our money but nothing has happened,” the source said under anonymity.
Some APC State House Assembly candidates have also bemoaned what they considered the alarming level of extortion they were subjected to during the process of obtaining Nomination and Expression of interest forms in Awka.
The candidates are also calling on the party secretariat to consider whether
there could be a review.
