By-election: Anambra People Spoke, APGA Bursted Their Rigging Plans ––Dep. Gov.
Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, deputy governor of Anambra has appreciated the people of Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North 1 State Constituency for their massive support which gave victory to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ibezim spoke on Monday while reacting to the by-election which was held in both constituencies on Saturday.
Dr Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA won Anambra South Senatorial District with 90,408 ahead of Chief Azuka Okwuosa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 19,847.
In Onitsha North Constituency 1, Mrs Ifeoma Ikpeazu-Azikiwe won with 7,774 votes ahead of Mrs Justina Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who pooled 1,909 votes.
He said the Anambra electorate had once again reiterated that APGA was not just a political party but a movement which had a strong imprint in the heart of the people because of its laudable performance since 2025.
He said the convincing win of the APGA candidates was made possible by Gov. Chukwuma Soludo who campaigned for the party with his infrastructure project and human capital development programmes.
“Anambra people spoke loudly through their votes and the message was clear, that APGA has been working since the days of Peter Obi through Willie Obiano and now Soludo who has turned Anambra to a construction site.
“The people rewarded the governor for what he has done and they also voted in anticipation of what he will still do because he is one who is not afraid of work.
The word is progressivism whether in Abuja or Anambra, so the the people know that with APGA, they are already at the centre, that is why they supported the governor massively in those by-elections,” he said.
Ibezim commended the security agencies for their professionalism as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission for ensuring that votes of the people counted.
He commended the members of APGA for coming out en masse to vote and ensuring their votes were protected by resisting attempts by anybody or group to subvert the electoral wish of the masses.
“The security agencies led by police were professional in the places I visited, I commend the people for their lawful conduct during and after the election.
“APGA did not have reason to be aggressive because no footballer who is leading by 4-0 in a world cup final will do a hard tackle towards the end of the match to get a red card.
“The result will show you who was ready to alter the result, I thank INEC for the good job it did in the by-election, it inspires hope for
better days ahead,” he said.
