CP Ama, Ibezim Visit Warring Aguleri, Umuoba Anam Communities, Sues For Peace

CP Nnanna-Oji Ama, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra Command has visited crisis-affected areas of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area for an on-the-spot assessment.
Ama was joined by Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Deputy Governor of Anambra, top government officials, security agencies and critical stakeholders on.
The Friday visit was part of the efforts to stabilise the situation, safeguard lives and property, and maintain law and order in the affected areas.
Unconfirmed report say at least one person has been killed in the war between the two border communities.
The Commissioner of Police and members of the delegation interacted with stakeholders to get the remote and immediate cause of the crisis and ascertain the enormity of damage.
He also confirmed the fatal injury sustained by a victim, assessed the extent of property destruction, and reviewed the impact of the crisis on residents and the affected communities.
CP reiterated the commitment of the Command to maintaining law and order, protecting the lives and property of citizens, and ensuring that residents were able to go about their legitimate activities without fear.
Ama called on the people of the communities to remain calm, refrain from actions capable of escalating the situation, and cooperate by providing credible and timely information that could assist ongoing security operations and peace-building efforts.
Also speaking, Ibezim urged traditional rulers, town union leaders, youths and other stakeholders to collaborate with government and security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the area.
He reiterated that security is a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation and commitment of all stakeholders.
The Command assures residents of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam that appropriate security measures are being put in place to stabilise the affected areas and prevent further breaches of peace.
Efforts are ongoing to address the underlying issues through dialogue and other lawful channels.
