Engr Nwibe Mourns Okija Stampede Victims
Chief Barth Nwibe, a top governorship aspirant in the November 2025 election in Anambra has bemoaned death of some Anambra residents in a stampede in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.
Recall that no fewer than 17 persons who had come to collect palliative from a big man in Okija were allegedly killed in the stampede on Saturday morning.
Nwibe, a renowned philanthropist, in his reaction said it was unfortunate that Nigerians could lose their lives in that number just because they wanted to get some grains of rice to stay alive.
He described the unfortunate incident as evidence of economic hardship Nigerians were facing.
He said those who died should not be blamed for their fate as they were only trying to get food to feed their families.
Nwibe commiserated with the families of the deceased and the people of Ihiala for their loss while praying that God will grant their souls eternal rest.
“I wish express my deep condolences to the families of the deceased persons and the people of Ihiala over this irreparable loss.
“It is definitely not their fault, they needed the rice to stay alive but that shows how bad the situation is in our society today.
“In a country where things are good, you cannot have that number of people looking for free rice, it is quite unfortunate and sad,” he said.
