NARD Tackles LUTH Over Extraction of Training Fee From Members
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has the extraction of training fee from management of some institutions was against the spirit of Memorandum of Action between it and the Ministry of Health.
NARD said this in a Statement made available to newsmen in Awka on Sunday.
The Statement signed by Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi and Dr. Jerry Isogun the association’s President and Secretary General respectively.
NARD said some institutions were already using the so-called MoA to exploit their members training under them.
It said the deductions were fraudulent and in utter disregard to the spirit of the agreement reached with the Ministry of Health.
The association said it was wrong to extract money from doctors as training free as obtained in the Lagos University Teaching Hospital
“It has come to the knowledge of NARD, a new terminology as used by the management of LUTH led by Prof. Chris Bode to extract monies from our members seeking to train at the institution.
“This is in direct disobedience and disregard to the peaceful Memorandum of Action reached between the Association and the Ministry of Health at the instance of the Ministry of Labour.
“The new weaponized terminology as used by the management of LUTH is TRAINING FEE. This to us is a fraudulent act.
“This also is against the agreement of the Abolishing of Bench fee which caused a lot of hardship amongst our ranks and it is one of the major reasons for the brain drain being witnessed today.
“The Association condemns this move as this is used by some political
gladiators to scuttle the peace the health system is enjoying at this time.
“We, therefore, call on well-meaning Nigerians to note that this on its own is a heinous attempt by the LUTH management and the association will not tolerate any more harm on its members who are already suffering from the failing health system,” it stated.
