Okafor, Veteran Olympian Lifts Anambra Athletics Team With Cash
Rosemary Okafor, a veteran national athlete and former Olympic has charged the Anambra Athletics team to the 7th National Youth Games holding in Asaba, Delta State.
Okafor, a 400m expert gave the advise after lifting the team with a sum of N100,000 as motivation for the athletes.
Coach Johnny Igboka Coordinator of the team who delivered the message to Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission said Okafor’s gesture was a huge boost for the team.
Igboka said the gesture would complement what the state government had provided and take care of their contingencies.
In his response, Onyedum thanked United States donors for her magnanimity.
Onyedum said the gesture was in line with the State government’s policy to drive the sports in partnership with private involvement.
“This is a welcome development, it feels good to see those who made it through sports giving back to support the younger ones as a way of encouraging them.
“The value is not in the amount given but the spirit behind it, we are grateful and we encourage others to take a cue, if these veterans cannot support the entire team, they can support their sports in particular,” he said.
The Anambra Athletics team is made up of 24 athletes and six officials.
