Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated the August empowerment initiative for women across the senatorial district.
Ebuka made the commitment while delivering his August meeting message to the women in communities.
In his message which was delivered through his representatives to Catholic and Anglican women called on church and community leaders to identify and nominate vulnerable members among them for empowerment.
He said economic empowerment was meant to address the challenges of widows, single mothers and the very disadvantaged with the aim of making them self-reliant.
“This initiative is rooted in my commitment to human capital development, so, select the poorest of the poor among you and present her to me for empowerment,” he said.
Onunkwo recalled his struggles with poverty in early life and how he was able to conquer his limitations.
He said he had a broader vision of enterprise, resilience and service which he intended to bring to bear as the senator representing Anambra South in the Senate.
“It was that experience that fueled my commitment to lifting people and creating opportunities,” he said.
He said modalities for nomination and selection of would-be beneficiaries would be processed through the church and community leaders
