Tension In Anambra Communities As LG Chairman Imposes Dusk To Dawn Curfew

An indefinite dusk and dawn curfew has been imposed on Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities of Anambra East Local Government Area.
The curfew took effect from Oct. 1 would run from 6pm. to 7am. daily until further notice.
Mr Ifeanyi Chinweze, Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area who announced this in a Statement on Thursday said the action was part of measures to curb the crisis between the two communities.
Chinweze said it was to ensure the protection of lives and property, maintain public order and guarantee safety of residents in the affected communities.
“Consequently, all residents, business owners and members of the public in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam are hereby directed to comply strictly with the curfew.
“They are to remain indoors between 6pm and 7am daily until the suspension of the directive is officially announced.
“All non-essential movements and public gatherings are prohibited during the curfew hours.
“Only authorised security personnel and individuals attending to genuine emergencies shall be exempted, subject to appropriate security authorisation,” he said.
Chinweze urged traditional rulers, presidents general, community leaders and youth organisations to ensure the immediate dissemination of the directive and encourage full compliance among residents.
He appealed to all residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with security agencies as concerted efforts were made to restore lasting peace and security in the communities.
“The cooperation and understanding of all residents are highly appreciated,” he said.
