Traders Sports Competition Begins With 104 Markets Featuring In Men’s Football

The 2026 Anambra Traders Sports Competition is set to kickoff with the football event on Monday.
The competition which is being organised by Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) will kick off on Sept. 13 with 104 markets from competing participating.
The theme of the competition is “Unity, Teamwork and Fair Play for Stronger Markets”.
The preliminaries of the football event will be played at designated venues across the seven market zones of Aguata, Awka, Idemili, Nnewi, Ogbaru, Onitsha and Oyi.
Chief Humphrey Anuna, the President General of ASMATA who spoke to newsmen in Awka on Friday said other events in the competition were Women Football, Draught, Ncho, Tennis and Table Tennis.
Anuna said the competition promises to be bigger, better and more exciting, urging members of the public to come out en masse to enjoy the best of sports from traders.
He said the sports competition was compulsory for all registered markets in the state adding that it was in their health interest and better interactivity among them.
The President General said market players must be identified with ASMATA identification cards and that they would mandatorily pass through a medical fitness check before each match starts.
He said there would be mouthwatering prizes for the top winners at the end of the competition.
He appreciated Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for efforts to improve market conditions while promising that traders would continue to support his administration.
