Unease In Nanka Community As ‘Ndi Nze n’Ozo’ Group Vows To Resist Desecration Of Tradition
Some members of ‘Ndi Nze n’Ozo’ traditional title holders in Nanka town, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra have called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to intervene and avert breakdown of law in the community ahead of the New Yam Festival.
The Chiefs while speaking with Journalists in Awka on Wednesday said the attempt to parrogate the leadership of ‘Ndi Nze n’Ozo’ Agbiligba Nanka to an impostor through subterranean means was not acceptable to them.
They said age long tradition of succession for headship of was subverted in 2021 after the death of Ichie Innocent Ezeokafor, the 17th ‘Isi Ozo’
Dr Chidozie Ezeozue, who addressed the media on behalf the title holders said the government and security agencies should prevail on those fanning the embers of trouble in Nanka because of their political positions to desist.
Ezeozue who is the Legal Adviser to ‘Ndi Nze n’Ozo’ Agbiligba Nanka said the government should hold the trouble makers responsible for any breakdown of order during the New Yam Festival scheduled for Aug.18 and Aug. 19
He said he had lodged a formal complaint with the President General and traditional ruler of Nanka town as well as Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for necessary action.
According to him, any attempt to give privilege due to the head of ‘Ndi Nze n’Ozo’ including performing the kola ritual will be resisted as it will be a sacrilegious act.
“We are aware that the people behind this move have mobilised thugs to intimidate and beat up people who will stop them from subverting the culture and rites of succession,” he said.
Ezeozue described Nanka as a peaceful community and blamed the brewing crisis on the desperation of a politician and some misguided allies.
