On behalf of the Executive Committee and the entire members of the Association of Resident Doctors, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (ARD-COOUTH), we write with deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to you, Chief Dr. Joe Akabuike, as you conclude your tenure as the Chief Medical Director of our great institution.
Every leadership journey carries with it moments of challenge, sacrifice, vision, and determination. Your tenure has reflected all of these and more. Throughout your years of service in this esteemed office, you demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the advancement of the hospital, the welfare of staff, and the delivery of quality healthcare to the countless patients who pass through the doors of COOUTH daily.
Under your stewardship, the hospital witnessed meaningful strides in several areas. From improvements in service delivery to the strengthening of institutional structures, your leadership helped to sustain the reputation of COOUTH as a centre of excellence in healthcare, medical training, and service to humanity. The footprints of your administration are evident in the continued growth and development of the institution, and these contributions will remain part of the hospital’s story for years to come.
Beyond the visible progress made within the institution, we are particularly grateful for the professional relationship and goodwill you consistently extended to the Association of Resident Doctors.
Leadership is often measured not only by policies and decisions but also by the ability to listen, understand, and engage constructively with those who form the backbone of the institution. In this regard, your openness to dialogue, your calm disposition in moments of negotiation, and your respect for the role of resident doctors in the healthcare system created an atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation.
Many of our members remember with appreciation the times when your doors were open for discussion, when difficult conversations were handled with patience, and when your leadership reflected a genuine concern for the wellbeing of doctors and the overall functioning of the hospital. These gestures, though sometimes quiet and behind the scenes, made a lasting impact on the working environment within the institution.
