Anambra Can Host Any Category Of Athletics, Football Competitions In Awka Stadium .. Egbe
Ebi Egbe, Managing Director of Monimichelle Sports Facilities Construction Company says the ultramodern Tartan tracks and football pitch installed at the Awka Township Stadium were some of the best of their kinds in West Africa.
Egbe who spoke at the stadium on Sunday said the facilities were built with the most modern technologies in the sports construction.
The Monimichelle boss said the 8-lane tartan track was a fully cast poly unit premium track, with 30 years lifespan and 25 years warranty.
He however pointed out that, as a technical and complex facility with tracks, pitch, scoreboard, public address system, water system, floodlight, irrigation system and sewage system, there was a need to maintain it.
“Anambra can now host any category of Athletics competition it wants, this is the only full cast 8-lane premium track in Nigeria, the only place you can see it is the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa but that is just 6-lanes all other ones are sandwich tracks.
“We hope that the governor, being a quality conscious leader, will give us the maintenance job, this will help ensure that the legacy he is leaving behind is sustained, discussions are on for a contract on maintenance,” he said.
On the football pitch which was at the finishing stage, Egbe said the Awka Stadium was the first stadium where with six sprinklers on a hybrid synthetic pitch
He said the pitch was not a rubber pitch but a hybrid synthetic pitch with the idea to make ball behaviour and foot comfort on the pitch to be as close as possible as though on natural grass.
This subbase is not just concrete, it has a smart drainage network with 10 mm shock pad and drainage 2mm pipes with anti-termite membrane to protect the grass.
According to him, the technology is the closest to natural grass and I brought it to Nigeria 15 years ago. This pitch has a lifespan of 12-14 years, everything here is FIFA certified.
“But you must maintain it, because this is the best place you can play football now in Anambra, so it will be the nerve center.
“My advice is that the Government should construct a practice pitch to take away pressure from here,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the Willie Obiano led Anambra government for giving his company the opportunity to showcase his competence and expertise in the area of sports facility construction.
