Police Burst Kidnap Gang, Recovers Mercedes Benz GLK
The Police in Anambra have arrested two members of a kidnap gang said to be operating in Anam axis of Anambra West Local Government Area.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relationship Officer in Anambra disclosed this in a Statement on Saturday.
Ikenga said the suspects were arrested on July 18 in their attempt to find a buyer for one black Mercedes Benz GLK SUV with registration number BLF 746 EA in Agulu, Anaocha LGA.
He said the owner of the car had earlier been kidnapped in Aguleri, Anambra East LGA by the suspects on June 26 and released after a ransom of ₦4.5 million was paid
He identified the suspects as Chukwuebuka Esulo from Ebonyi State and Ejeka Ufuo, 23 years,
He said Police detectives placed surveillance and arrested Esulo who was seeking a buyer before he was used to lure the Ufuo.
“Detectives swooped on the suspect and arrested him for questioning.
“He confessed to being a member of the kidnap gang and disclosed that he was sent from their Camp to sell the car.
On the orders of the Commissioner of Police, the case was transferred to the Anti Kidnapping Unit, Awkuzu.
“Officers went after other members of the gang leading to the arrest of one other member of the gang Ejeka Ufuo.
“He was led to believe that the vehicle had been sold and he came out with the intent of collecting the proceeds.
“Efforts are ongoing to round up other members of the gang and recover their weapons,” he said.
Ikenga said CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police had commended all Personnel involved in the breakthrough and urged them not to rest on their oars in effort to rid Anambra of the menace of kidnapping and other crime.
