Anambra Sports Commissioner Rallies Support For 2026 Olympic Day Run

 

 

Anambra government has called on citizens to come out en masse and participate in this year’ Olympic Day Run event scheduled for Saturday, July 11.

 

Patrick-Agha Mba, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development made the call in a Statement made available to journalists in Alaska Wednesday

 

The Olympic Day is a global celebration commemorating the founding of the International

Olympic Committee (IOC) on June 23,1894.

 

Aghamba said the event which targets a community fun walk of a distance between 3km and 5km will commence at ABS Compound, Awka at 7am and terminate at the Awka Township Stadium.

 

“The event promotes the values of the

Olympic Movement through its three pillars, Move, Learn, and Discover.

 

“It also encourages physical fitness, healthy living, and community participation regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability,” he said.

 

Mba said the commemoration which was in solidarity and support for the Olympic Movement in Nigeria would also feature cultural displays, fitness activities, and interactive sessions with distinguished Olympians and other sports personalities.

 

“In view of this, the general public is cordially invited to attend this event.

 

“Your presence and participation will greatly contribute to the success of this important event

as we collectively promote healthy living and grassroots sports development in Anambra,” he said.
