ICPC Invites 92 COOU Staff For Questioning Over Procurement Breach Allegations
No fewer than 92 staff members of Anambra State owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam have been invited for interrogation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of procurement breach.
The invitation letter to the concerned people addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University was signed by Dio A. Emmanuel, the Ag Resident Anti Corruption Commissioner in Anambra and dated July 2.
The Commission said it was investigating allegations of diversion of public funds, abuse of office and conflict of interest which violated some provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Relying on the provision of section 28(1) of the said Act, the ICPC directed the institution to release the following staff to appear before it in its office in Awka .
The indicated that the invited persons should appear between July 7 and July 24.
The ICPC said the concerned persons could go with a Lawyer, Justice of Peace, Staff of a Legal Council of Nigeria or any individual of their choice as provided in section 17(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice, Act, 2015.
This is a new twist in the controversy surrounding the institution in recent times.
Recall that the ICPC had earlier written to the authorities of the University directing it to submit some academic records for scrutiny.
