Soludo Pardons ‘Akwa Okuko’ Anambra Celebrity Native Doctor
About three months to the expiration of the jail sentence handed down to Chidozie Nwangwu, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has used his powers of prerogative of mercy to grant him freedom.
Nwangwu was arrested in February 2025 by operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit over allegations bordering on aiding and abetting kidnapping and involvement in money rituals.
He was arrested alongside two other native doctors, Okocha, also known as Onyeze Jesus and Mr Ekene, popularly called Eke Hit.
The trio had been standing trial while in the custody of the Agunechemba Security Outfit until an Anambra High Court sitting in Awka sentencing Nwangwu to two years imprisonment February this year
The judgment delivered by Justice Jude Obiora ordered the demolition of Nwangwu’s shrine located in Oba and barred him from practising Okeite upon release.
It further directed that he must make a public, video-recorded statement denouncing the practice.
It also ordered him to serve as an ambassador for youth reorientation, cautioning young people against seeking wealth through supernatural means.
But on Friday Sept. 18 and three weeks to the end of his sentence, Soludo granted Nwangwu full freedom under his powers of prerogative of mercy.
Akwa Okuko as he is popularly has lost his shrine to demolition in line with court directive and will now play the role of Youth Ambassador on good behaviour for the government of Anambra.
The pronouncement came as the heated debate over the claim of Anambra that Mr Peter Obi left huge amounts in debt for his predecessor rages on.
