SWAN Southeast Zone Wades Into Chapter Crisis
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Southeast Zone has sued for calm on the ongoing internal issues within the Imo State Chapter of the association.
Ikemefuna Asika, The Vice President of the Zone called on all parties to sheathe their swords and refrain from further confrontation, both online and offline.
Asika made the appeal in a letter addressed to the Chairman of SWAN Imo State Chapter, expressing concern over recent developments within the chapter, which he described as “quite unfortunate.
He noted that the national leadership of SWAN is aware of what he described as an unsavoury and frosty internal relationship within the chapter, as well as between the chapter and some of its partners.
According to him, the situation has unfortunately filtered into the media space and is neither in the interest of the association nor sports development in Imo State.
“This is both disappointing and not in the interest of the association or sports development in Imo State,” he stated.
The Southeast Vice President appealed to all concerned parties to stop further face-off engagements online and offline and to stand down all actions already taken.
He said he had scheduled a meeting with the Executive Committee, members of the association and other critical stakeholders as part of efforts to address the situation.
He said the proposed engagement would provide an opportunity for the relevant parties to discuss the issues and work towards an amicable resolution in the interest of SWAN and sports development in the state.
The meeting is expected to provide a platform for resolution of the issues at stake.
